Setting and Keeping Goals

It is easy to set goals but often difficult to keep and reach them. We will say, "The next time I go on a diet, I will stay on it" or "I am going to start saving money". In spite of this, we often fail because we do no set our minds to the goal or apply direct action to achieving the goal.

1. When setting goals do not set them so high that you set yourself up to fail. Some goals are so ambitious that it is almost impossible to keep or reach them. It may be best to take plodding baby steps to get where you want to be. If you remember the Aesop fable of The Tortoise and the Hare, you will recall that the tortoise won the race by being steady and focused.

2. Do not keep your goals a secret from family; this includes your children. This is especially important if you have set a goal to rid yourself a habit that may be harmful to your health, i.e.

Diamond-studded card for the 'VVIP'

A South Korean company took bling to the next level with a diamond-encrusted credit card it will use to attract the very, very important people.

Kim Sam-sun, president and chief executive of GK Power, the card producer, said "VVIP customers want differentiation, and banks want to attract these big spenders," The Independent reported Thursday.

The Seoul-based company developed the luxury high-end card that features diamonds embedded in a silver rivet on a black card.

GK Power has produced a black-and-gold card with embedded diamonds that is supplied only to royal Middle Eastern families through a Dubai First Bank contract, the British newspaper said.

"There is always that top millionaire class anywhere," Kim said, "and that's the crowd we're initially aiming for."

Garmin cuts mapping deal with Navteq, ends Tele Atlas bidding

Garmin Ltd. has cut a long-term deal with Navteq, the world's No. 1 digital mapping company, and will drop out of a multi-billion-dollar bidding war for the No. 2 mapmaker.

The Olathe navigation company said today it has signed a contract with Navteq, based in Chicago, to supply maps to Garmin through 2015. Garmin has an option to extend the contract through 2019.

The action ends a bidding war between Garmin and its chief competitor in the navigation market, Netherlands-based TomTom, for Tele Atlas.

The two companies had bid up the price for Tele Atlas, a Netherlands company that has never had a profitable year, to $4.2 billion.

News of the Garmin-Navteq deal sent shares of Garmin soaring. Shares closed at $97.51, up $13.51, or 16 percent.

Fitch Affirms Corn Products International's IDR at 'BBB'; Outlook Stable

--Senior unsecured credit facility at 'BBB'.

The company had $620 million of debt at Sept. 30, 2007. The Rating Outlook is Stable.

The ratings are supported by the company's competitive market position, geographic diversification and comprehensive product mix within the wet-corn milling industry. Corn Products' conservative financial policies and financial flexibility are also reflected in the ratings. The price of corn, the company's main raw material cost, may fluctuate based on factors such as changes in weather conditions and plantings, consumption growth and government agricultural policies. However, Corn Products' balanced geographic presence reduces operating earnings volatility in any one region. While the company does not participate in ethanol production, Corn Products benefits from the tightening of capacity utilization for the entire corn complex.
